Modern Slavery at Homelium
Our Commitment Against Modern Slavery.
Homelium Care Ltd
Homelium Care Ltd is committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all aspects of our business and to implementing effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery and human trafficking do not take place within our organisation or supply chains.
Although Homelium Care Ltd does not currently meet the turnover threshold of £36 million required under Section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, we recognise the importance of addressing modern slavery risks and have voluntarily adopted the principles of the Act within our policies and practices.
This statement outlines the steps we take to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking within our organisation and supply chains.
1. Our Organisation, Structure and Supply Chains
Homelium Care Ltd is a UK-based provider of domiciliary care services, delivering regulated personal care and support to individuals within their own homes.
Our workforce consists primarily of employed care professionals and operational staff who support the delivery of safe, compassionate, and person-centred care.
Our supply chains are relatively limited and mainly consist of:
• recruitment and employment services
• training providers
• care equipment and PPE suppliers
We work with reputable organisations and expect our partners and suppliers to share our commitment to ethical working practices.
2. Policies in Relation to Slavery and Human Trafficking
Homelium has a range of policies and procedures that reinforce our commitment to preventing modern slavery, including:
• Safeguarding Policy
• Recruitment and Selection Policy
• Whistleblowing Policy
• Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy
• Code of Conduct for Employees
These policies support fair treatment, safe working conditions, and ensure that all staff are able to raise concerns about unethical or unlawful practices without fear of retaliation.
3. Due Diligence Processes
Homelium undertakes appropriate due diligence in relation to both recruitment and supplier engagement.
Our recruitment processes include:
• verification of identity
• verification of right to work in the UK
• employment reference checks
• enhanced DBS checks where required
• structured interview processes
These measures help ensure that individuals working within our organisation are doing so voluntarily and lawfully.
Where we engage suppliers, we seek to work with organisations that demonstrate responsible employment practices and compliance with UK legislation.
4. Risk Assessment and Management
The nature of our services means that safeguarding and protecting vulnerable individuals is central to our work.
Our staff are trained to identify and report signs of abuse, exploitation, coercion, or neglect, which may include indicators of modern slavery or human trafficking.
Any concerns raised by staff are managed through our safeguarding procedures and escalated appropriately.
Management oversight and regulatory compliance with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) also form part of our approach to monitoring and managing potential risks.
5. Effectiveness and Monitoring
We assess the effectiveness of our approach through:
• internal management oversight
• safeguarding reporting procedures
• staff supervision and management reviews
• whistleblowing processes
• compliance with regulatory requirements set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC)
We are committed to reviewing our policies and procedures regularly to ensure they remain effective and aligned with best practice.
6. Training and Staff Awareness
Homelium provides safeguarding training to staff as part of their induction and ongoing professional development.
This training includes recognising indicators of abuse and exploitation, including modern slavery and human trafficking.
Staff are encouraged to report any concerns immediately through established safeguarding or whistleblowing channels.
Our Commitment
Homelium Care Ltd is committed to maintaining a culture of transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct across our organisation.
We will continue to review our policies, practices, and partnerships to ensure that modern slavery risks are minimised and that we uphold the highest standards of care and professionalism.
